Walter Charles Jacus, age 88, passed away peacefully in Fox Point, Wisconsin, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and deep devotion to his family. Born on July 28, 1937, Walter lived a full and meaningful life, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Walter was the beloved husband of Valerie (Mileusnic) Jacus, with whom he shared 63 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was a true partnership—built on love, mutual respect, and an enduring companionship that only deepened with time. Through life’s many chapters, they stood side by side, creating a home filled with warmth, resilience, and unwavering support for one another.
Family was the center of Walter’s world. He is survived by his loving children: Paul Jacus and his wife Molly Riley, Philip Jacus and his wife Anita, and Leslie Jacus and her husband Dr. Scott Schlidt. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Dr. Nicholas Jacus and his fiancée Keitasha Arnold, Ben Schlidt and his girlfriend Tricia Engel, Peter Jacus, Mia Schlidt, and Greta Schlidt. Each of them carries forward his spirit, his humor, and the countless memories he created with them.
Walter had a remarkable gift for connection—he truly became friends with everyone he encountered. His kindness, easy smile, and genuine interest in others made people feel seen and valued. To his grandchildren especially, he was a storyteller extraordinaire. His funny, heartfelt stories—often told with a twinkle in his eye—will be remembered and retold for generations, echoing his joy and love, long into the future.
He is also survived by his brothers Ray Jacus (101), Erwin Jacus (91) and his wife Gail, and John Jacus (93). He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Jacus.
Walter was a graduate of the University of Illinois and proudly served his country in the United States Army (disabled veteran), stationed in France. He carried that sense of duty and perseverance throughout his life. Professionally, he had a successful career as a commodities futures broker and was an active member of his community, including serving as Caucus Representative and Secretary of the Jaycees in Hinsdale, Illinois. He made his home in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, Illinois, where he built both his career and lifelong relationships.
Above all, Walter will be remembered for his heart — for the way he loved deeply, laughed often, and made those around him feel like family. His presence brought comfort, his stories brought joy, and his life was a testament to kindness and connection.
He will be profoundly missed, forever loved, and always remembered by his family and all who knew him.
Private services will be held at a later date.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Walter’s memory to the American Heart Association or The National Kidney Foundation.
