On Monday, September 23rd, 2019, the day of the autumnal equinox, Vince St. John, beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away at the age of 51 after a brief illness. Vince was born on February 15, 1968 in the Panama Canal Zone to Kenneth and Marilyn St. John, who were then stationed at Howard Air Force Base in Panama.
After his dad’s retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Old Town, Maine, where Vince lived his formative school years and established his roots. He graduated from John Baptist High School in 1986 and enlisted in the Air Force himself that same year, working as a military law enforcement specialist and honorably completing his service in July of 1990. He went on to a nearly 20-year career in the paper industry, establishing himself as a supervisor and manager with a unique ability to lead people, believe in their abilities, and produce positive results. After more than 10 years at Verso Paper Corp., Vince had most recently been working as a Maintenance Reliability Improvement Manager at Evergreen Packaging in Asheville, North Carolina and Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Vinnie was a lifelong sportsman, who especially loved hunting and fishing, most recently taking up fly fishing while in North Carolina. When in Maine, he loved going to hunting camp with family, enjoying their company and the quiet of the Maine woods. And family is what mattered most to Vince. He always made time to stay connected, share a laugh, lend a hand, or just be there for his family. He loved to learn new things, lived life passionately and with style, yet never took himself too seriously. He also loved sports and, especially, watching his son, Jarret, play. Like his dad before him, Vince lived life “big” and we will miss him so.
He was predeceased by his dad, Ken, and is survived by his mother, Marilyn; wife, Sharon (Crane) St. John and their son, Jarret; daughters Autumn and Falynne; granddaughter Aubrey; and brothers Mark and wife Terry, and Jarret and wife Whitney.
The family wishes to thank the nursing and medical staff of the Transplant ICU team at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI for the expert and compassionate care they provided Vince over the final two weeks of his life.
A service will be held at St. Paul’s Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Church on Ohio Street in Bangor, Maine on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at noon.
