In loving memory of Toula P. Karides
March 24, 1926 – July 3, 2025
With heavy hearts yet filled with hope of eternal life, we announce the passing of Toula Karides who departed this earthly life on July 3, 2025, at Vita’s Hospice in Naples, Florida. Toula was a “snowbird” between Naples, Florida and Caledonia, Wisconsin for many years until becoming a full time Florida resident in 2018. She was a member of St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church of Naples, Florida and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Toula was a lively, spunky 99-year-old with a smile and giggle that was most contagious. Everyone adored her. She possessed a twinkle in her eye as she spoke with people. As she aged she developed a “right eye wink” that people found quite endearing.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Efstratios Petropoulos and Droseri (Grammatikou) from Strefi, Greece on March 24, 1926. When she was 6 years old, Toula’s parents packed up the family and moved to Greece. World War II broke out and as a result she didn’t return to the U.S. until after the war. Toula received her formal education in Greece.
On October 24, 1948, Toula married Peter G. Karides. They welcomed three children into their lives only two survive her: Marlene Karides Ego (the late Charles Ego), son, the late George P. Karides, and son Steven P. Karides (Julia Laschen).
Toula was an avid baker and knitter. She was encouraged by many to open a bakery featuring her bread and Greek pastries. Her knitting skills were superb and seldom used a pattern but creating her own designs. When in Florida, she joined the St. Katherine’s knitting group for a short while. She was able to help many ladies of the knitting group who came to her for advice!
Toula was a devoted mother to all her children. She lived to help make life easier for them by always being there with an offer for a solution. She loved to dote on all four of her grandchildren – Tiffany (Brian) Jacobsen, Krista (Daren) Diiorio, Stephanie (Andrew) Hahn and Joseph Karides. She adored her three great grandchildren – Charles Jacobsen, Mia Diiorio, and Luke Diiorio.
Toula is survived by many nieces, nephews, and god-children whom she loved dearly. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins in Greece.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 9400 West Congress Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Funeral Service will begin at church at 11:30 AM. Father Ciprian Sas officiating. Entombment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery.
If desired, charitable donations can be made in Toula’s name to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee, WI.
