I was a student of Mr. Dettweiler 21 years ago. Tonight I thought of all the inspiration, and faith he had in me. I decided to look him up to thank him, I had no idea he had passed away. He was so kind and talented and above all, a young teacher that wanted to find the artist in all of his students. I will always remember him. He was THE teacher with the greatest impact on who I am and I'm grateful. God bless

Tor always stood out with his quiet kindness. He was a part of the Cornelia Arts Building family for many, many years. I think I can speak for everyone who knew him at Cornelia...he will be missed. But, at the same time his kindness will be remembered.

I will miss Tor greatly. He introdcued me to the Cornelia Arts Building and asked me to share his studio with him. I will never forget that day back in 1991. I leraned so much about creativity and spontaneity from him as we would walk along the Chicago River looking for organic art materials. A man with a kind heart and warm soul.

My son Sam had Mr. Dettwiler freshman year for art class. Sam was on dialysis and received a kidney shortly after the school year began. Mr. Dettwiler made it possible for Sam to stay in the class and participate with a modified curriculum. Not every teacher was as understanding and flexible as he was. Sam enjoyed his classes and he will be missed greatly. I am so sorry for your loss.
