Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 67 on January 26, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Devoted wife of husband, Mark Steinberg, for 39 years. Proud mother of beloved sons Jonathan Gianos-Steinberg, Alexander Gianos-Steinberg, and daughter-in-law Alexa Gianos-Steinberg. Preceded in death by her parents John and Wilma Gianos. Survived by sister Barbara Gianos-Rideout, brother Robert Gianos, niece Jacqueline Gianos-Rideout, nephews Kenneth Rideout III and Robbie Gianos, and her pet dogs Nike and Zoe.
Susan was born in Milwaukee, and grew up in Brookfield. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Languages from Purdue University in 1976. For several years, she worked as a bookkeeper for close family friend and accountant Alexander Georges. Following that, she worked for her father John at his firm, National Employment, Inc, an employee recruiting and placement company, where she screened candidates for clerical positions. Susan also worked in the new account data entry group at Strong Funds for about 10 years.
Susan was devoted to her faith and a dedicated congregant and supporter of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Her activities there for many years included teaching Sunday School, director of the annual Christmas Pageant, church tour director, volunteer work at Greek Fest and other church fundraisers, and Philoptokos supporter.
Susan was an avid gardener, an experienced bridge player, an enthusiastic collector of nutcrackers and Christmas ornaments, and a loyal Packers football fan. Her other interests included politics, history, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. For a number of years she served as an elections poll worker and chief inspector for the city of Brookfield.
Susan and Mark adopted many dogs over the years and more recently have provided volunteer and financial support to the Elmbrook Humane Society.
The family is grateful to the medical teams headed by Dr. Kurt Oesterling at Aurora Cancer Care, Dr. James Thomas and Physician Assistant Yee Lan Wong at the Froedtert Cancer Center, and Horizon Hospice for the care provided during Susan’s battle with cancer and other related complications.
Visitation at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 9400 West Congress Street, on Monday, January 29, from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
