On July 3, 2026 – Steve, age 72, the light of our lives – passed on. Heaven has gained another angel. He is now at peace with his mom and dad, Rosemary and Walter Baran.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, having just celebrated 50 years of wonderful marriage, his wonderful and amazing daughter and son-in-law, Angela (Timothy) Chandek, his wonderful and amazing son Andrew Baran, and his precious and adorable grandchildren, Connor and Anna Chandek. Connor and Anna called Steve “Papa.” Steve loved coloring, doing playdough and going to the zoo with them.

Steve is also survived by his brother, Gregory (Debbie) Baran, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Steve graduated from St. Hedwig Grade School and attended St. John Cathedral High School. He retired from Green Bay Packaging – Midland Division in 2017.

Steve always had time for his family, who he loved so much. He loved to travel, work on wood crafting, watch war documentaries and history on TV, go to casinos with his wife, Beverly, scratch-offs, episodes of Perry Mason, decorating for Christmas, snacking on Little Debbies at midnight, and the Brewers and the Packers.

A big thank you to Froedtert Hospital for all their wonderful care and Zilber Hospice for making Steve’s remaining time peaceful and cared for. He fought a courageous battle.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, in New Berlin, from 10:00 AM – 12:15 PM, with Service at 12:30 PM. Reception to follow.

Little Debbie.... I remember when the Arizona contingent last visited circa 2001, we all massively OD'd on many many boxes of Little Debbie snack cakes. At that time, we noticed an offer on the box back that if we clipped out so many of the UPC codes and sent them in (remember doing that???), which we easily achieved because we ate so many, they would send you a Little Debbie Doll! So of course, we gave them Steve's address as a gag, so hopefully he got that in the mail and, if his family found it 25 years later and wondered "what the heck"?!, there's the explanation for that :-)

Goodbye, Uncle Steve, and safe travels. Most of my memories of you stem from when I was still young in the early '70s, living in Milwaukee yet, or the several visits you all made to us in Arizona. My favorite is all of the swimming pool diving board antics we all used to get up to, and the time it finally decided to give up and break off, with you doing the jumping! That or the discovery of a great then-new beer only available in limited quantities in the West called Coors! I believe some made it as carry-on onto the airplane for the trip home! Good times and good memories. Bon voyage!

My father, Steve Wolfe, who worked with Steve Baran, shared the heartbreaking news of Steve's passing over the holiday weekend. While my heart broke hearing the news, I also found myself feeling relieved knowing Steve is finally at peace and no longer in pain. After hearing the news, I was reading a book and came across a quote that immediately made me think of Steve. It felt like it was meant for this moment: "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years."
