Shirley Heron was born on October 31s, 1932, the second born of Roman and Polly Heron. Her older sister was Patsy Heron born in May of 1930.
From 1934 until 1956 they lived on 35th and Hampton Ave in Milwaukee (in a duplex). Steve Cmel became her brother in law when he married Patsy in 1950 and in 1954 Shirley became an aunt when Patricia (Chickie) was born. From 1956 until 1978 Shirley lived in a duplex her parents built on 51 Blvd and Hope Avenue in Milwaukee. Her sister and niece also lived there for 19 years.
While living on 35th and Hampton Shirley worked 5 years at Globe Union then worked at A.O. Smith where she worked until her retirement in 1998. Shirley lived on 70th Street off of Hampton Ave for 42 years. For 12 of those years she lived with her mother who bought the house.
Shirley enjoyed traveling to Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Florida. Shirley also went on family trips to visit (her mother’s sister) Aunt Agnes, Uncle John and cousins Emmy and Ann in New York. After her sister Patsy was widowed in 1963, Shirley took a trip with her sister and niece to Hawaii and later they went to Florida together. Her favorite trip was her last trip to Bermuda. In 1986 Shirley became a God Mother to her niece’s son, Stephen.
