Jensen, Shirley Ann (née Strehlow)

April 23, 1935 – January 13, 2026

Born into Eternal Life on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at age 90. Shirley is survived by her son Kevin Jensen (Peggy); grandchildren Chris and Sarah Jensen; and brother Wayne Strehlow (Dianne). Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Philip Jensen; her parents Henry and Elsie Strehlow; and her sister-in-law Delores Strehlow. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews as well as other loving relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Born in Milwaukee, Shirley grew up in Waupun, WI. There Shirley learned to play the clarinet and developed her life-long love of music. Following high school, Shirley attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, she moved to the Milwaukee area where she taught kindergarten at Wilson Elementary School in Wauwatosa.

Shirley met the love of her life, Phil, at a young adult club in Wauwatosa, and the two were married on June 18, 1960. They built a new home on the north side of Milwaukee in Brown Deer and welcomed their only son, Kevin, in 1966. Retiring from teaching, Shirley then took on the noble profession of homemaker in supporting her family. She was a constant, loving presence who was always available to listen. She also provided encouragement and support for her son’s interests in reading, writing, history, and music.

Following Phil’s retirement in 1991, Shirley and he enjoyed visiting and taking trips with friends and relatives. After the birth of her grandchildren in 2000, she took an active role in watching their many sport, theatre, and musical endeavors as well as continuing to enjoy her son’s musical performances in the Germantown area.

In her later years, Shirley courageously dealt with a number of health issues. She was resilient, a genuinely nice individual, and a favorite of her many caregivers.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 22, from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM with a Service to follow at 11:00 AM at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
