Sara “Sally” Breckenridge

Passed away surrounded by her family on July 30, 2016, at age 82.

Born in Waterloo, Iowa to Roger D. Brunn and Monica J. Brunn (Wente). Sally achieved many academic honors throughout her time at Waterloo East High School and Iowa State University. She was also elected Governor of Hawkeye Girls State in 1951.

Sally married John W. Breckenridge on August 18, 1957. She resided in Brookfield, WI for the past 46 years. She is survived by her husband, John, two children, Christopher J. Breckenridge of Tempe, AZ and Jody L. Breckenridge of Brookfield, WI, and her grandchildren, Abigail C. Duncan and Breck W. Duncan.

Sally had a love of learning through books, languages and travel. She and John traveled extensively, including numerous trips to Europe, as well as Africa, China and India. Sally loved planning independent travel when possible, and studied the languages of most places that she went. She prided herself in being able to speak conversational French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swahili. Hiking in the Swiss Alps and African animal safaris were among her favorite excursions.

There will be a time to greet the family on Saturday, August 6 from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Sally’s name to Literacy Services of Wisconsin, 555 N. Plankinton Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203 or a charity of your choice.
