Sandra Frances Gilbert-Perkins (nee Jenkins) was born on September 18, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the second child born to the union of John Richard and Callie Jenkins.
After the family moved to Milwaukee, they united with St. Matthew C.M.E Church and Sandra remained a member until her death. She was involved in the CYF as a child and sang in the Mass Choir as an adult. She attended Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1969. After graduation, she attended UW Milwaukee and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Sandra was known for her outgoing personality, infectious laugh and was the life of the party. She brought light and joy to every room she entered with her antics and had a unique gift for making others feel loved and celebrated. Known for her poise, as a teenager, she also conducted charm classes for young ladies in the neighborhood and at Washington High School. She also served as a Librarian at the Milwaukee Public Library. She cherished gathering with family and friends to mark holidays, birthdays, and life’s special moments.
At the age of 34, Sandra entered into the military and proudly served her country as a United States Navy Officer for nine years. After her military service, she was employed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and dedicated 27 years where she made a meaningful impact before retiring.
Sandra’s presence was a gift to all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and the countless lives she touched.
Her loving parents, Callie and John Jenkins, preceded her in death.
Sandra passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in the presence of her loving daughter Carmen Colon. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Lynette Splain and Carmen Colon of Milwaukee, and Finoy Perkins of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sisters Willette Bowie, Carolyn (Robert) Spinks, brothers Robert (Rebecca) Jenkins and John David (Michelle) Jenkins all of WI; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Funeral Service at 12:00 PM.
