Robert Louis “Bob” Melkus, passed peacefully into Eternal Life on November 13, 2017 at the age of 75. Bob was born in Chicago, IL on September 25, 1942, son of the late George and Eva (Tokich) Melkus. He and his family later moved to Milwaukee where he was a graduate of Greenfield High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army, from May, 1966 – May, 1968. He completed basic training at Fort Carson, CO and then spent time as an Ammunition Specialist in South Korea, followed by an honorable discharge. On May 5, 1973, Bob married his wonderful wife Donna and they began to raise a family in Milwaukee, later moving to Germantown where they built two beautiful homes together.
Bob’s passion was operating heavy equipment, leading him to pursue a career as an Operating Engineer for various commercial contractors. Bob then started his own grading and landscaping company in the mid 90’s. His talents didn’t go unnoticed in the community as he was awarded the Germantown Community Beautification Award in 2006 for the landscaping at his own home. Bob enjoyed spending as much time outdoors as possible, fishing in his favorite trout stream or waiting for the next big buck to cross under his tree stand. He also loved football, baseball, corvettes, challenging anyone (who would dare) to a checker game and his wife’s home-cooked meals.
Above all, Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He cherished visits with his two granddaughters and enjoyed hearing their songs and stories and teaching them about nature. He fought his battle with MS bravely and though he is gone, he will never be forgotten. We will always remember the good times with Bob – and how he was a hard-working, generous, kind and loving husband, dad and grandpa.
Bob was the husband of his dear wife Donna (nee Wudtke) for 44 years; loving father of Carrie (Tony) Demitros and Ryan Melkus; adoring grandpa of Abbey and Makenzie Demitros; cherished brother of Donald (Jeanne) Melkus and Kenneth (Lynn) Melkus. He was loved and will be missed by many other special friends and relatives.
Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM. Funeral service begins at 1:00 PM. Private burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
We will never forget Bob’s unconditional love and he will always be a part of our lives.
Even until his last day with us, whenever we said “I Love You” to Bob, his reply would always be “Love You More.”
