Timothy R. Gould left a message on January 2, 2018:
Dick and his parents have been close family friends to the Mertz (Cliff and Sue) and Gould (Ken and Milly) family. We always enjoyed his visits during the EEA fly in at Oshkosh. Dick enjoyed his time up north and always had good conversations with the family about all his work and things going on in his life. He will be sorely missed and our prayers and condolences are with him and his friends. Love from your Up North Family.

Dick came into my family’s life around 1970 when he came to work at GE Aerospace on the Satellite operations program in Sunnyvale CA. I had already been working that program for several years. He instantly became an associate worker and part of my family. After 57 years, he has remained in our lives but since we moved back to Utica NY in 1974, it has been mostly by Telephone sprinkled by several visits he made to us over the years. Others have covered his colorful characteristics but suffice to say that this is what we all continued to talk about in our conversations with him and others. He was a colorful individual and we are going to severely miss these connections to Dick. Rest in peace our friend.
Lisa (Smith) White left a message on January 1, 2018:
I first met Dick when he was my father’s GE colleague and I was just a kid. He had a big personality with a big voice and a laugh I can still hear in my head. We eventually moved from California yet he became a life-long family friend, thoughtfully bringing me a yellow rose on a visit when I was a teenager, flying east to attend my wedding and remembering both my mother’s and my birthday every year. Letters from Dick were packed with incredible amounts of detail. They could be 4 or 5 pages front and back and the specifics recalled of past projects was mind-boggling. Dick had a thing for wolves, amateur radio (with his call sign of WA9IEZ since 1969), and flying. It is sad to know that Dick is gone, and that his family tree is ending with his passing. We all were blessed to have been on his radar, and that he continued to stay in contact at a time when it wasn’t so easy. May the memory of Dick be forever in our hearts, may his spirit live on in all of us. A donation is being made in his remembrance to wolf conservation.

I was fortunate to have welcomed Dick into our Space Electronics group in Utica, NY; this being straight out of college. He was a most dedicated contributor on any task he was assigned to and his efforts were always appreciated. He could be described as the Engineers Engineer; fascinated by technology and what he could produce with it. In addition, he was the most personable person in any group. His Christmas letters are classic, with details of his pursuits at work and his happiness at being able to contribute to the US security. We will all miss him, and I'm sure that sentiment goes for all his past acquaintances. Rest in peace Dick.

My dad worked with Dick in Utica when I was very young. I remember Dick hanging out with my dad and playing with me. I will always remember his kindness throughout all the years
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I worked with Dick for 10 years at GE and 5 years at ITEK-Applied Technology and he remained a close family friend thereafter. Dick was a brilliant engineer and a loving person. May peace be with him. He will not be forgotten.

Dick had a remarkable memory for people and the details of his Space Satellite Work. I worked with Dick in the early 1970's on the General Electric program which supported Lockheed space satellites. When I spoke with him a few weeks ago, he remembered the command codes for details that were incredible and unbelievable that he had that detail on the tip of his tongue. I was amazed at his recall. He further exhibited his attention to detail as an engineer by keeping track of many of his friends and work associates through his career. And he would always provide some fresh news in his annual Christmas news letter. I will miss Dick.
