Stepped into heaven at the age of 88 on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Cherished husband of Carolyn (nee Plischke) for 64 years. Loving father to Lynda (Tom) Krecklow, Sue (Doug) Schaber, Sandy (Paul) Behling and John Hartenstein. Caring grandpa to Melissa, Micah, Shayla (Skyler Martin), Julia and Jonah Krecklow, Sam, Christine (Jamie) Gillespie, Holly, Peter and Emily Behling, Joshua (Rachel), Caleb (Ruth) and Matthew Schaber, Lexi, DJ and Quincy Hartenstein and great-grandpa to Leena Schaber. Survived by his brother, Alan (Linda) Hartenstein, cousins, nieces and nephews, church family and many other friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Leona (nee Miles) Hartenstein and brother, Lee Hartenstein.
Dick was an entrepreneur throughout his life, starting 3 different businesses – Beaver Plumbing (in the ‘60s), Metro Sanitation (in the ‘70s) and DACCO Trailers — Dick And Carolyn Company (in the ‘80s to present) with his wife, Carolyn.
His faith and relationship with Christ were very important to him. He lived out his faith by helping others in his church and work communities, mentoring others, serving on short-term mission trips across the world and by supporting missionaries. He affected many deeply by sharing his faith and humbly helping others. He lived a blessed life and was a blessing to many. His license plate read BHLICFT, and he was very happy if you asked him what it meant. He loved to share the truth that “Because He (Christ) Lives I Can Face Tomorrow.”
We love him and we will miss him! We are thankful that he showed us how to love Christ and others well.
Dick has chosen Fort Wilderness (a Christian camp in Northern Wisconsin) www.fortwilderness.com and Spring Creek Church (Pewaukee WI) www.springcreek.church as ministries he would like to support. If you are so inclined, you can send memorials to either place in honor of Dick.
Visitation Friday, August 7, 2026 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Service at 5:00 PM at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield Wisconsin.
