Before he was a Reverend and a Lieutenant Colonel, he was a thoughtful and kind friend. We met as undergraduates at Oberlin College and we never stopped talking about life and challenges and marriage and kids and how we should live, and how the world works and what we could do to make things better. I found him to be a visionary and at times prophetic. He preached when my late wife died in 1980. He helped me get through being a widower with two children and he came to my aid and preached when my olderst son was died at the age of 19. He held me up and kept me from falling away from everything. To me he was a saint. I miss him and I know his spirit is watching and spreading love to us all. He and Linda created three beautiful children. His spirit is in these children. But those of us who got to know him also know that he was full of humor and laughter and eccentricities. I have too many stories to tell here. He was a musician and a creator. He worked with me and our good friend Avery Brooks to create music and plays. And we performed off- broadway and at Rutgers and the National Black Theatre in Harlem. In short he was a brilliant man a great friend and a joy to know. I know that his journey even made the Creator laugh at times. He was a wonderful man.
