Paul J. Lawonn passed peacefully on August 31st, 2024, after a brief but fearless fight with brain cancer. He was 68.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Cindy, his son Dan (Camille), daughter Laura (Francisco), granddaughters Selby and Margot Lawonn, siblings Geoff (Cynthia), Phill, and Carole Lawonn, and loving mother Ruth Lawonn, preceded in death by brothers Mark and Tim, and father Gerald. Many know that in the last two decades Paul battled cancer several times and won. In this last fight he was able to put down his armor and embrace his healing with Christ.
Throughout his adult life Paul had an impressive corporate career in Safety, working his way up from a security guard to starting several successful businesses of his own. Outside of this career, Paul’s real passion was in helping his community. He was a Navy veteran, volunteer firefighter, EMT, tireless church volunteer, and motivational speaker.
He loved music – whether it was blasting 60’s and 70’s hits from his den, reciting all the lyrics from The Music Man, strumming his 12-string guitar, or beaming with pride at his children’s many concerts. Either through music or service, Paul infused joy into every minute of every day.
The family would like to specially thank each of Paul’s doctors, oncologists, and kind healthcare workers who fought alongside him through every round with cancer, holding his fists up and keeping him in the ring until the very end.
Paul will be remembered for his grit, relentless spirit, and unwavering hope. Matthew 25:23, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
