She is preceded in death by her parents (Harold and Marcella Morton), brother Jim Morton, and her loving husband of 66 years, Russell A. Launder.

Russ and Muriel met in their Juneau High School Harmony class and, according to husband Russ “…have made beautiful music together ever since.” Muriel attended Marquette University, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy/Journalism, and was a member of the Tau Chapter of the Theta Phi Alpha sorority.

Muriel and Russ lived a life of devotion to God through their Catholic faith. Throughout her life, she carried a love of music, culture, art, poetry, nature, storytelling. In addition to her dutiful roles of wife, mother of five, and grandmother, she taught as an elementary school teacher, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout leader, and teacher of Religious Education at St. Bruno’s Parish School in Dousman, WI. She played an especially active roll supporting her children’s involvement in Musical Theater, where she lent her talents as the “prop mistress.” She was a lover and protector of birds and waterfowl and inherited a fondness for flowers and gardening from her mother, Marcella.

Muriel is survived by her children Jim Launder, Kate Launder (Roy Bergold), Mary Launder (Allen Green), Sue Launder-Becker (John), and Christie Nelson (Eric); her 7 grandchildren Amber Sorcic, Lucas and Paul Nelson, Adele and John R. Becker, and Mario and Sonia Launder; her 9 great-grandchildren Collin, Lexi, Camden, Matteo, Everley, Kara, Lydia, Elise, and Reid.

The Family is deeply appreciative of the loving and constant at-home care that she received from her daughter, Christie, son-in-law Eric, and grandson Lucas, as well as the caregivers and staff of Procare Plus, and ProHealth AngelsGrace Hospice, since the passing of husband Russ in 2020. A memorial and celebration of Muriel and Russ’s life together will be held in July.

What a ray of sunshine Mrs. Launder was each and every time I saw her! We became acquainted in the 1960s while attending Holy Redeemer in Milwaukee. Her daughter, Kathy, and I became good friends. Mrs. Launder warmly welcomed me into their home and was always interested in my family and me. She invited me to stay for lunch quite often and her meals were memorably yummy. Mrs. Launder would often drive Kathy and me to Joy Farm to ride their horses, Angel and Joe. As Kathy and I moved on to Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Mrs. Launder continued to be a part of my life. The genuine warmth, positivity, and compassion that Mrs. Launder exuded was extraordinary. After the family moved to Oconomowoc, Mrs. Launder continued to extend her warm, comfortable hospitality to me. Although Kathy and I lost touch after she moved to Florida, my memories of the Launder family are only happy ones. When I look back on all of the folks I've known in my 70 years, I must say that Mrs. Launder definitely stands out as someone who was truly one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met. Dear Family of Muriel and Russ, We want to extend our deepest sympathy at the loss of your sweet mom. Being fellow parishioners at St Bruno’s parish it was always such a pleasure to visit with your parents when we saw them at mass. Always smiles , kind words, pleasantries exchanged. There was a period when your mom was the person I would call on the St Bruno prayer line to request prayers for special intentions. I loved calling her and we had many, many lovely conversations. It was our pleasure to know and love your parents

I’m sorry for your loss. Mrs Launder was such a light in the world. Even at 95 she was still so sweet, thoughtful and made us laugh with her quick wit. Growing up in a tight knit band of friends in the 70’s, we were lucky to have Mrs Launder as one of our many “moms”. She will always be remebered with a smile and love
