Anderson, Mildred J, age 97, passed away peacefully on Nov 2nd.
Born in Defiance, IA, in 1928, Millie grew up in a large farm family. After graduating from Duchesne College, NE, she began her teaching career in Denver. She moved to Milwaukee with her sister Eileen where she met and married Jim Anderson. She formed close friendships with the “Potluck” group, raised her family in Wauwatosa, and taught in the West Allis School District.
Millie was active in her church, lending her voice to scripture readings most Sundays. She was an avid reader and puzzler, a world traveler, a great conversationalist, a wonderful cook and host, and she loved to garden, play bridge, and sew. She paid homage to her Iowa roots by making countless quilts, which are treasured by her family.
Millie loved her family and found strength in her faith. She gave to others freely and was loved by many. After Jim’s untimely death in ’91, she poured herself into her grandchildren making sure they always had a wonderful time at “Grammy’s” house.
Millie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her parents, Nick and Mary Kenkel; her brothers, Francis Kenkeland Clarence (Joe) Kenkel; her sisters, Helen Juelsgaard and Pat Sweetman. She is survived by her sons, Mike and Peter (Jan Omacht), and her grandchildren (mother, Stephanie Barbano) Francesca, Marcela Pfenning (Eric), Nick (Micaela), Johnny, and James, Will, and Charlie. Millie is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Eileen Rossi, Robert Kenkel, Alice Buman, Donna Neppl, and Nick Kenkel, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
