Maylene Cox, age 84, passed away on February 5, 2024.
Maylene (Lightfoot) Cox was born January 1, 1940, to Charles Edison and Clara (Lightfoot) Ragland in Rockfield, Kentucky. She was the oldest of four children. Maylene received her formal education at High Street High School in Bowling Green, KY. On May 12, 1956, Maylene united in holy matrimony to the love of her life James Auston Cox in Bowling Green, KY. To this union were born five sons: James Amal, Craig Tyrone, Shawn Charles, Kevin Austin, and Trevor William. James and Maylene moved their young family to Milwaukee, WI in 1964 where she was a housewife for many years, eventually working as a cook for the Pfister Hotel. Maylene later worked as a cook for the Milwaukee Public Schools and retired after years of service at Victor Berger Elementary School. As a young woman, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Greater New Hope Church of God and Christ in 1966. James and Maylene remained married over 56 years until James passed away in 2012.
In the early morning hours on February 5, 2024 in San Antonio, TX, Maylene peacefully departed this life while asleep. Maylene leaves to cherish her loving memory: four sons James (Tracy) of Princeton, TX, Shawn (Charlotte) of Fort Worth, TX; Kevin (Janine) of San Antonio, TX; and Trevor (Dana) of Danbury, CT; two sisters-in-law Mary Rose (Harry) Anthony of Bowling Green, KY; and Elaine (Dwight) Ragland of Virgina Beach, VA; nineteen grandchildren: Craig and Rachmaan Weatherby, Jamyra White, Chyenne and Chyniece Cox; Elizabeth and Craig Caldwell; Jessica Wilson, Adrienne, and Shannon Cox; Dr. Kamara (Jonathon) Gray, Austin, and Kevin Jr. Cox; and Alesliana (Kevin) Wirth, Dominic, Auston, Trevor Jr., Christopher, and Jonathan Brown-Cox; Nephews: Kenneth Cox of Philadelphia, PA; Larry and Andrew Ragland of California; Leon and Quinn Harris of Kentucky; Dwight (Regina) Ragland of Milwaukee, WI; Nieces: Robin (J LeVar) Allen of Louisville, KY; Towanda (Christopher) Johnson of Florida; Samantha (Kenneth) Williams of Virginia Beach, VA; Shirley (Robert) Ragland of Milwaukee, WI; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Maylene was preceded in death by her husband, James; father and mother, Charles and Clara; two brothers: Larry (Yolauna) and Dwight Ragland; one sister: Marsha (Robert) Harris; her son Craig; grandson Charles; granddaughter Chanelle, great granddaughter Kaliyah, and niece Barbara Dale.
To our mom, it’s hard to say goodbye. We love and are celebrating you for all the love you have given which filled our hearts with the gifts of family, friendship, and unforgettable memories! You are truly a gift from God, a beautiful woman, a caring mother and grandmother, whom we love with all our hearts. Glory be to God and what He did at the Cross for us all because He truly did it all!!!
Visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Burial at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.
