Gone Home to Heaven.
Mary Tome (nee Fugitt), devoted wife of the late Lawrence Tome, peacefully joined him in eternal life on Saturday, October 14, 2023, surrounded by family.
Mary was born and raised on a cotton farm in Hunt County, Texas along with seven brothers and one sister. She met and married Lawrence Tome in Greenville, Texas during World War II. At the end of the war they moved to Wisconsin, and she brought her accent with her.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lawrence Tome, parents Robert E. and Mary Sena (Dutton) Fugitt, brothers Lee, C.E., Preston, Gilbert, Wilbur, Gene and Bobby, sister Margie Childress, and son-in-law Frank Drewek.
Most loved and cherished mother of Larry (Kathy) Tome and Nancy (the late Frank) Drewek. Adored grandmother of Becky (Erik) Falk and Erin (Travis Schmaltz) Tome. Extra special aunt of Charlsey Tidwell, Celeste TX. Sister-in-law of Robert Tome, Avon Park FL. Also survived by dear grand-dogs Daisy, Nash, Midnight, Rooney, and Enzo. Further survived by dear nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors, and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Saleh, Dr. Dastagir, and the nursing team at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Mary’s team from Aurora Home Hospice, and all of the staff at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for their incredible support, kindness and gentle care of Mary and her family.
Mary’s love, guidance, common sense and gentle ways live on in our hearts. The stories and recollections she shared with us throughout her lifetime are safe in our memories. She was a treasure and a joy to us.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, private family services were held.
