Mary Elizabeth (nee Peterlin) Schaefer, also known as “Healthy” The Clown, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2023, at the age of 77, in Muskego, Wisconsin. She was born on March 6, 1946, in Racine, Wisconsin, to parents Edith and Edward Peterlin. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Joseph (Lana) Peterlin and sister Susie Frayer.
Mary was a woman of remarkable qualities. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, curiosity, strength, intelligence, spirituality, fairness, and generosity touched the lives of those around her. She embraced various
roles throughout her life, serving as a devoted homemaker, nurturing mother, dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), accomplished professional clown, successful entrepreneur, and diligent housekeeper. Mary’s passion for bringing joy to others led her to don the colorful attire as a professional clown, where her laughter and antics brought countless smiles to people’s faces. In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed collecting dolls, cultivating beautiful gardens, creating delicious meals in the kitchen, and cherishing precious moments with her beloved family. Left to enjoy the fond memories, her loving sons: Doug (Malia) Schaefer, Dan (Karassa) Schaefer, and Dave (Michelle) Schaefer. Mary’s deeply cherished granddaughters, Emily (Will) Weller and Maya Schaefer, as well as her grandsons, Michael, Wesley, and Wauker Schaefer, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Her great-grandson, Elliott Weller, brought immense joy to Mary’s later years.
Mary’s educational journey began at St. Rita’s Elementary School, where she graduated in 1960. She went on to attend St. Catherine’s High School in Racine, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1964. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, Mary completed her studies at the esteemed Sacred Heart School of Practical Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1965.
Mary found solace and inspiration in her faith, attending worship services at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
A visitation to honor Mary’s life will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, located at N27W24000 Paul Ct, Pewaukee, WI. A heartfelt funeral service will follow promptly at 10:00 AM. Mary’s final resting place will be at the serene Prairie Home Cemetery, situated at 605 S Prairie Ave, Waukesha, WI. Following the burial service, a luncheon will be hosted back at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, to share cherished memories and uplifting one another in the spirit of togetherness.
As a symbol of remembrance for Mary and to honor her compassionate spirit, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever be remembered for her warm heart, wonderful spirit, and unwavering love. May her gentle soul rest eternally in peace.
