Mary Elizabeth Jordan was born March 21, 1932, to Modley Levert Jordan and Gonzella Jordan (née Gray) in Birmingham, Alabama. Mary was the third oldest of seven children.
Mary began her Christian journey in the Lutheran Faith but converted to Catholicism in her early teen years. She received her elementary education through St. Mary’s Catholic School and continued her education at Holy Family High School in Ensley, Alabama. Mary was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of Gesu Catholic Church.
Mary moved to Chicago, Illinois in the mid 1960’s to peruse an employment opportunity. From there she relocated and found her permanent home in Milwaukee, WI. Cooking was her passion and she worked as a chef at St. Anthony’s Hospital for over a decade and later at Ebenezer Childcare Center until her retirement in 2002. During her time at Ebenezer she delighted hundreds of children with her culinary excellence and developed friendships with some of the Staff and Parents that lasted until her death.
Mary departed this life on February 10, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Modley Levert and Gonzella Jordan; two brothers: Leon and William; Nieces: Robin and Princess; Nephew: William Jr.; Sister-in-Law Picola and longtime friends Noddie Fields, Beverly Jackson and Rosa Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sandra of Milwaukee; one brother Ken (Ruth); Sisters: Loretta Sanders and Ida Jordan all of Los Angeles, California; Sister: Juanita Jordan of Charlotte, North Carolina; Nieces: Bettye Phillips of Las Vegas, Nevada; Darlene Sanders and Helen Jordan of Los Angeles, California; Shauna Jordan of Charlotte, North Carolina; Nephews: Chris Jordan, John Sanders, Eric Jordan, Brian Jordan and Leon Jordan Jr. of Los Angeles, California; Great Nieces: Nadia and Jordan; Great Nephew: Christian Cambridge: god daughter; Brigitt Cokes and Roxanne Fair; god-grand children: Brittney Brown, Brandon and Brenton Cokes; Rember Kess; Dear Friends: Ann and Mike McKillip (Amanda, Alaina, Amelia); Deb, Scott, Taylor and Danielle Zube; Julie Hull; Felecia Worthington and Marionia Jones.
Visitation to be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 9:00 AM until time of the service at 10:00 AM at Church of the Gesu, 1145 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Interment at Graceland Cemetery.
