According to weather records for June 4, 1948, Milwaukee experienced a high temperature for the day of 90°F and a low of 50°F with only about a half inch of rain. On that same day at 4:58 PM, Dorothy and William Jautz welcomed into the world their third daughter, Mary Carla.
Within a few weeks, Mary and her family moved from their rented flat on Richmond Avenue in Milwaukee to their own house out in the “woods” (as friends referred to it) on West Brown Deer Road, Town of Granville. It was here that Mary attended grade school at St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish and then continued on to Granville High School. Upon graduation she applied for a job at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company, Milwaukee and stayed until she retired in June 2006. During those years she always gave a confidential ear and a shoulder to cry on to those she worked with that would come to discuss their troubles and woes.
Mary loved to travel and during her life she managed to travel to and in all 50 states; all the provinces of Canada, plus a good portion of the territories; and Europe.
Our sweet sister is survived by her sisters, Barbara Jautz-Zach and Krista Jautz. She is further survived by her brother-in-law, John Bailey; nieces and nephews, Theresa Takli-Ferguson, Rebecca Zach, Timothy Bailey, Patrick Bailey, and Susan Gattoni. And her dog-child, Klaus Steinbeck. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Jautz, her sister, Catherine Bailey and her nephew, Carl Zach.
If she could tell you herself, Mary would say it was a “wonderful time.”
We would like to thank the medical staff at Aurora Medical Center – Grafton who gave Mary great care and comfort at the end of her life.
Visitation from 9:00 AM – 10:15 AM, with service at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, N89W16297 Cleveland Avenue, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Interment in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Mequon, Wisconsin.
