Martha J. Hickman-Mabon entered God’s loving arms on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the age of 79.
Martha was born on January 2, 1946, in Louisville, Mississippi to the union of Everett Ray and Etta Ozella Hickman. The family relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1953. She received her formal education in the Milwaukee Public School system. As a devoted Christian, she was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she participated in the former Prison Ministry program.
Martha was employed at Briggs and Stratton where she retired after 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, watching westerns and sports, and spending time with her closely-knit family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Genel Mabon, father Everett Hickman, mother Etta Ozella Hickman, and sister Dorothy Evans.
Martha leaves to cherish her memories: her loving children Reginald Burks Sr., Angela Ewing, John (Karen) Burks of Gladstone, Missouri, Serena Burks; eight grandchildren, Reginald Burks Jr., Michael Crawford, Tanisha Burks, Jomyka (John) Sams, Donald (Lakayla) Ewing Jr., Charlotte Burks, Arielle Ewing, Tonea Kearney; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Hickman of San Francisco, California, Helen (Ray) White, Mary Hickman (Kenneth) Austin; three brothers, Charles (Annie) Hickman, Robert (Darlene) Hickman, and Darrell Hickman; also survived by loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 2433 West Roosevelt Drive Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53209, on Friday, May 16, 2025, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Funeral Service at 12:00 PM. Entombment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
