Marcella Means (Nee Wamser), peacefully entered God’s loving arms while she was surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 16, 2021 at age 97. She reunited with her husband, Dr. James A. Means III (Jim) who preceeded her in death. Marcie was the daughter of Frank (d) and Wallie (d) Wamser and was the last living sibling of their 6 children. She was the loving mother of Mary Finn, JoAnne (Charles) Weber, Betty Bourgeois, and James (MaryBeth) Means. She was the proud Nana to Lindsay (Tony) Gonzalez, Ashley (Jason) Ware, Juliane (JP) Baquiran, Tracy (Eric) Stettler, Charles (Ashley) Weber, Stefanie (Justin) Sladky, Luke (Fran) Bourgeois, Kristy (Wylie) Bourgeois Blair, Michelle (Dan) Bourgeois Cumming, Megan (Tatum) Vayavananda, and Kaitlin (Richard) Chen. She was also a great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren.
Marcie and Jim met while attending Marquette University and became active members of the University community. Marcie travelled with the Federation of Catholic Colleges as their local and regional president and represented MU in this capacity. She fondly remembered social and service activities of her sorority, arranging mixers at Knights of Columbus during war years and dances at the Eagles Ballroom with the big bands. Jim graduated with a Medical Degree and Marcie received a BS in Chemistry from Marquette. They were married shortly after graduation.
Marcie worked as an assistant research chemist while Jim was a resident at Milwaukee County Hospital. She was a business manager for a medical office for many years. She travelled to Okinawa with her family for 1953 and 1954 where Jim served as a doctor during the Korean War.
On returning to the states, they settled in Milwaukee and joined St Agnes Parish. She and Jim lived their lives as devout Catholics and were both active in the church and school. Both took turns running the Home and School Association at St Agnes and creating enriching activities for the school children. She was on the Divine Savior High School Board, Red Cross, St Agnes Parish Council and Finance Commission, Park Ridge Garden Club. They travelled with a travel trailer around the USA with the family and also were able to go to Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Carribean.
Marcie loved her family deeply, creating beautiful memories at holidays especially Christmas and Easter, at the Lake Cottage gatherings, weddings, baptisms, and vacations.
Visitation at 9:30 August 23, 2021 at St. Agnes Church in Butler followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30. Private interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Agnes (Butler) Church or St. Agnes tuition fund.
