Very fond memories of spending time with Mrs Pera. I got to have experience’s I may not have had thanks to her. Ice skating at Lincoln Park lagoon and she even found some skates that became “mine”, swimming lessons, grooming her dog Fritz together and she giving me the confidence to cut her hair ( I don’t know what she was thinking-lol!) though it has been my profession for 35 yrs. She was a wonderful listener and a committed faithful servant to her Savior.

Dear Steve and Janet, Michelle, Tom and Virgie, and kids. Ever since I heard about your Mom’s departure, I have wondered how I might express my love for you in your pain and yet rejoice with you that she has completed her journey and is safely home now with your Dad, Aunt Sylvia and the rest of your family and mine. I can only imagine the LORD Himself smiling there as everyone hugged and laughed and welcomed her home. I’m certain your Dad was happiest of all. And then they walked hand in hand to see the beautiful room so long ago prepared for her. I am sad that I will not be able to be present at your celebration of her life. This Parkinson’s disease makes it impossible for me to travel more than a few miles from my room here at John Knox Village. Nevertheless, I do so want you to know that I shall be with you in spirit. I owe so much to your Mom and Dad. He was my best friend. If I had not been invited to their wedding, especially as one of the best men, I would never have really gotten to meet Aunt Sylvia. Then I probably would never have found the courage to court her and eventually propose marriage. But that’s a story to review another time. Your Mom is such a wonderful person. She was always such a model of what it means to be a wife and companion. And, of course, what it means to be a mother—something y’all know better than anyone else. But she had other callings. She was always Vic’s assistant, ever ready to be with him and to support him whenever and wherever the LORD called him to go. I laugh as I think about her welcoming that huge guard dog whose cage filled up most of the kitchen. I don’t recall his name. Whatever happened to him? I only think that very few wives would have been ready to live in a community that made such an animal necessary. But again, you know more of that than I do, especially in these last years when she stepped in to help keep the congregation together while they struggled to move forward without your Dad as their pastor. And then there were those years she taught at those church schools. Nothing could hold her back. She was committed. Again, you know more of that Hey guys, what can I say? Your Mom and my sister is a person of remarkable love, faith, patience and beauty. You have every reason to be proud of her remarkable life God bless you and keep you until we all meet together in the heavenly Father’s house. –Uncle Al
