Lloyd “Kim” passed away peacefully on Christmas morning at the age of 89.
Born in Milwaukee, Lloyd Fisher served in the army during the Korean War, and spent most of his adult life in the Janesville area before retiring to the great Northwoods (Rhinelander area).
While he may have been a bit grouchy to some, he was a good friend to many, many more—and we appreciated him either way!
Lloyd (nicknamed Kim) was a well-respected builder in Janesville for over 40 years, mentoring many other successful builders along the way. He was also a long-time active member of both the Elks Club and Lions Club in Janesville (particularly helping people achieve the gift of sight by volunteering for Lions Eye Banks, as well as other fundraising and social activities).
He made a point of teaching his children and grandchildren to be hard workers and to value family, grit, and integrity.
Maybe you met Lloyd at the bar…? Always socially active, he loved telling stories while playing pool, shuffleboard, Chickensh**, Sheepshead, cribbage—you name it. You may remember he ran the Huh?! Bar on Thunder Lake, which many snowmobilers enjoyed.
Without Lloyd’s love of a good meal, the family probably wouldn’t have eaten anything other than German food! He loved Chinese food, was a big fan of Friday night fish fries (plus dancing with his wife at the Elks Club), and appreciated the cooking skills of his daughter, Katie. His musical tastes included country, classical, 70’s rock (but not in the 70’s), and good polka music.
Even into his late 80s, Lloyd was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting, especially with his dog, Coco (and throughout the years, various springer spaniels named Lady or Freckles)! Since moving Up North, he became an active member of Northwoods Muskies Inc—both participating in the league as well as supporting fundraising efforts.
He was generous to a fault, and truly a curious lifelong learner well into his 80’s: figuring out social media, engaging in new activities, meeting new people, and making new friends. He loved a good-natured teasing and kept his sense of humor to the end.
Beloved father of Lynne (Roy), Laura (Michael), Michael (Chris), and Katie (Todd). Grandfather to Niki (Patrick), Charlie (Katie Rae), Toni (Paul), Sarah (Joe), Hillary, Richard (Jammie), Michelle (Sean), Kenneth, Paige (Darryl), Nicholas, and Drew—as well as fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy, many nieces, nephews, and other friends and family. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife (Mary), son (Michael), son-in-law (Roy), brother-in-law (George).
