Kriss Lecurt Coleman, age 61, ascended to a better place on Thursday, November 26, 2025. He was a complex mercurial man that loved deeply and, in turn, was deeply loved by his heartbroken family. The only solace taken in his passing is the belief that he is in the loving embrace of those that passed before him; his dad (Dejustice Coleman Sr), brother (Brett Jon Coleman), grandparents, aunts/uncles, and extended family members. May Yahweh bless his devoted soul.
Kriss was born in Champaign-Urbana IL, on January 31, 1964. In his formative years, the family resided in Illinois, Colorado, Maryland, and California before settling in Brown Deer, WI. This peripatetic life strengthened the familial bond and encouraged reliance and resilience. Kriss had the privilege of attending educational institutions in each state he resided. He graduated from Brown Deer High School in 1982. He briefly moved to Washington D.C. to attend college but returned due to the onset of his illness. Ultimately, he attended UW Milwaukee for many years.
Kriss spent his youth working. He began his career in junior high school working as a paper boy. In high school, he participated in a program that allowed students to intern at area businesses. He chose both a grocery store and the automotive department at Sears Roebuck. While attending college, he worked construction, cooked at Summerfest, tutored at risk youth and cashiered at a drugstore. His last job was working in the family business as a private investigator before his illness intervened and left him debilitated.
Kriss spent life searching for balance in the duality of his nature. He both struggled against and embraced concepts of science and spirituality, the corporeal versus the cerebral, the abstract versus realism. He despaired over the injustices of this world and attempted to alleviate his angst by donating to charities, buying groceries for those in need and lending a helping hand when he was able. Life for Kriss was filled with joy and laughter, despondence and misery. Such is the state of human existence but, for Kriss, this burden seemed twofold. In his death may his spirit finally find the stasis he so justly deserved in life.
Kriss is survived by his loving family; his mother Dorothy Ruth Martin Coleman, sister Jodi (Alex) Coleman Mendoza, brother Dejustice Coleman Jr., nephew Taylor Coleman, and numerous extended family members.
Visitation from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Procession to Pinelawn Memorial Park to follow.
