Kathleen J. Zblewski “Kathy” (nee Nelson)
June 19, 1928 – May 8, 2026
Welcomed into God’s loving arms on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the age of 97. Kathleen grew up in Green Bay and lived a life rooted in kindness, strength, and devotion to those she loved most, centered around her Catholic faith.
She was born on June 19, 1928 in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of the late Winfield Otto and Catherine Cecelia (Lyons) Nelson. She was the youngest of three children and graduated from Annunciation Catholic Grade School. She then attended Green Bay West high school, graduating in 1946. Following in her sister Shirley’s footsteps, she moved to Milwaukee and built a lifetime of memories.
Kathleen dedicated 32 years of service to the State of Wisconsin. She started her career as a secretary/stenographer working in Probation & Parole, then moving to work for the Department of Motor Vehicle. She finished her career working for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring at age 76. She was known for her strong work ethic, warm heart, and generous spirit. The things she treasured most in life were her faith, family, and friends.
Above all else, Kathleen cherished time spent with loved ones. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sharing stories and laughter, and simply being together.
Kathleen delighted in life’s simple pleasures — reading the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, watching The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars, picking up her Sunday donut, going out for dinner with family and friends (Hawaiian pizza was a favorite), and playing with her grandpups. Her sweet smile and loving presence brought comfort and happiness to everyone around her.
She will be remembered as a strong woman who led with love, grace, and compassion. Her family will forever cherish her gentle nature, unwavering support, and the familiar words she often shared: “Take it easy now.”
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Julie Bottom and son-in-law Ernie; her granddaughter, Abbie Van Ess and husband Alex; her grandson, Andy Bottom and wife Sonya; her great-grandchildren, Brody and Bria; and many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John and her sister Shirley.
Gathering at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Memorial Service 12:00 PM.
Mom, we will always hold you dear to our hearts and cherish all the beautiful memories we shared together.
