Karl Horner

Karl G. Horner was an amazing dad, partner, businessman, and friend who will be sincerely missed by many. His mom welcomed him to Heaven on February 16, 2024. His loved ones will remember him as loving, accepting, bold (loud), purposeful, loyal to his family, funny, and always cracking a joke with the best smile.

Born on July 29, 1960 to Donald and Marylyn Horner, Karl grew up in New Berlin, Wisconsin and made many happy memories on family trips Up North. Whenever his family asked where Karl was, they knew the answer would always be fishing (which stayed true for the rest of Karl’s life).

Karl met his first wife Debra at a high school graduation party before attending college at Marquette University. He and Debra shared over 30 years of marriage and had two incredible sons, Tyler and Trent. Together, their family enjoyed watching football (Go Pack!) traveling, and of course continuing Up North traditions at the Hazen Inn.

Karl started his career at Wisconsin Centrifugal while working nights at UPS, and later went on to run his own business, The Horner Company. He was a personable leader and made many business connections who grew into lifelong friends.

Later in life, Karl met his wife, Krista, and voluntarily became a girl dad to four teenagers (Lilly, Bella, Olivia and Angel) – despite the fact that he always said estrogen is the scourge of the world.

Karl loved little moments like a Sunday at home with his family, throwing a lure in the lake, and listening to music. His life was also full of big adventures including an annual tarpon fishing trip to Florida and a number one bucket list trip to Egypt.

Shortly before he died, Karl lived another big dream, which was taking a limo to attend the Mariah Carey Christmas Concert in style with his family, who will forever cherish the memories from this trip.

Karl was predeceased by his parents and his brother Darrell. He is survived by his big family which includes relatives and friends from Wisconsin to New Zealand and his canine son, MuddE.

Karl shared love with those around him in life and in death. His final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

“Next time it’s Karl you’re missing, find peace in knowing he’s gone fishing.”

Gathering will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM and service at 5:45 PM.
