Juana Maldonado

Juana Maldonado was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, only sister, aunt and friend. She was born into Eternal Life on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the age of 73.

She was born to her beloved parents Elias Dominguez and Marcela Vazquez on March 31, 1952 in Mexico City.

After studying to become an accomplished secretary and office assistant, she decided to take a gamble in her life and come to the United States to learn English in order to return to her home and get a better paying job to support her family and succeed in her future.

In Chicago she met who would become her life partner of 44 years, the dashing Filemon Maldonado. Due to fate, they then moved to Milwaukee where they settled and built a hard-earned and rewarding life together raising 3 good-looking, extremely smart, wisecracking children, Norma De Leon, Suzanna Maldonado-Dominguez, and DE’Carlo Maldonado. They, in turn, continued the lineage and passed on these fantastic traits to her grandchildren, Celina De Leon, Enrique De Leon, and the twins Xavier De Leon and Nina De Leon. Who in continuation will teach these same stellar traits to her incoming great-grandson, Luca De Leon.

Juana is also survived by her affectionate brothers Ernesto Dominguez, Fermin Dominguez, and Esteban Dominguez as well as several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, an aunt, cousins, and many, many friends which includes anyone she touched in the Milwaukee Hispanic community and the Catholic Church community.

She is preceded in death not only by her parents, but also her brothers Francisco Dominguez, Victor Dominguez, and Tomas Dominguez.

Juana (aka Juanita or Licha depending on who you speak with) was not a person meant to just stay home and raise her kids in the comfort of her house. No, she was a person who always looked to better herself not only for her family, but for her self-worth.

She returned to school to finish learning the language of her new home country. She then found a job at the 16th Street Clinic working for the W.I.C. program translating various pamphlets and reading material to Spanish women and families understood what was being told to them and educate themselves. After a few years there, she then got a huge opportunity and went to work for UW-Extension for nearly 16 years as a Nutrition Educator where she excelled and became a beacon in the Hispanic community armed with information on how to eat right and budgeting meals for families. She traveled all over Milwaukee to schools, churches, and private homes spreading important information that may potentially helped generations of families survive.

She then retired and lived out her last, approximately, 10 years as she wanted by traveling to visit family in Mexico as well as further her community service by volunteering at several churches in any capacity needed. Whether it was an usher, or a lector, or giving out Holy communion, or teaching catechism. She even towards the end served on the Mother of Good Counsel parish board.

Juana also played just as hard as she worked. Never one to turn down an opportunity to leave the house, you would see her (or not because she disappeared) always traveling where she could. She visited places like Niagara Falls, South Dakota, Nashville, or closer to home Wisconsin Dells, or Green Bay. She ended up helping copilot a car in the move of her oldest grandchild, Celina Marcela, when she got a job in Austin, TX.

But NEVER, missed her pilgrimage to Mexico to visit the large Dominguez, Vazquez, and Maldonado families. If it was possible she would travel with Filemon to their birth country more than once a year and for months at a time as her retirement status allowed.

Family was EVERYTHING!!

Please always remember my blessed mother as the cheerful, happy, vibrant, always joking or telling a joke, Boston Store then Kohl’s fanatic, The Price is Right loving, carrot and pineapple upside down cake making woman she was. Always with music playing and mostly in a good mood (as long as you didn’t get on her bad side like her well behaved adult children very few times did).

The services scheduled are as follows:

* A viewing at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

* Then visitation at 11:00 AM followed by the funeral mass at 12:00 PM at Mother of Good Counsel Parish, 6924 West Lisbon Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Juana Maldonado fue una esposa, madre y abuela dedicada a su familia, única hermana, tía y amiga cariñosa. Entró a la Vida Eterna el domingo 23 de noviembre de 2025 a la edad de 73 años.

Nació de sus queridos padres, Elías Domínguez y Marcela Vázquez, el 31 de marzo de 1952 en la Ciudad de México.

Después de estudiar para convertirse en una secretaria y asistente de oficina experta, decidió arriesgarse y venir a Estados Unidos para aprender inglés, conseguir un trabajo mejor remunerado que le permitiera mantener a su familia, prosperar en el futuro y posteriormente regresar a su casa.

Por destino de la vida, en Chicago conoció a quien se convertiría en su compañero de vida durante 44 años, el galán Filemón Maldonado. Con el tiempo se mudaron a Milwaukee donde se establecieron. A base de mucho esfuerzo construyeron juntos una vida gratificante criando a tres hijos guapos, inteligentes y muy ingeniosos: Norma De Leon, Suzanna Maldonado-Domínguez y DE’Carlo Maldonado, quienes a su vez continuaron el linaje y enseñaron estas fantásticas cualidades a sus nietos, Celina De Leon, Enrique De Leon y los cuates Xavier De Leon y Nina De Leon. Luego de quienes estamos seguros enseñarán estas mismas cualidades y valores estelares a su futuro bisnieto, Luca De Leon.

A Juana también le sobreviven sus cariñosos hermanos Ernesto Domínguez, Fermín Domínguez y Esteban Domínguez, así como varias cuñadas, sobrinos, una tía, primos y muchísimos amigos, incluyendo a todos aquellos con quienes tuvo contacto y la aprecian en la comunidad hispana de Milwaukee y la Iglesia Católica.

Se adelantaron en muerte no solo sus padres, sino también sus hermanos Francisco Domínguez, Víctor Domínguez y Tomás Domínguez.

Juana (también conocida como Juanita o Licha según con quién hable) no era una persona destinada a quedarse en casa y criar a sus hijos en la comodidad de su hogar. No, ella siempre buscaba superarse. No solo por el bien de su familia sino también por su gran inteligencia y su buena autoestima.

Regresó a la escuela para terminar de aprender el idioma de su nuevo país. Con el tiempo encontró trabajo en la Clínica de la Calle 16. Trabajando para el programa W.I.C. y traduciendo varios folletos y material de lectura a español para que las mujeres y familias comprendieran lo que se les informaban. Después de unos años allí, recibió una gran oportunidad y trabajó para la Extensión de la Universidad de Wisconsin durante casi 16 años como Educadora de Nutrición, donde destacó y se convirtió en un referente en la comunidad hispana con información sobre cómo comer bien y cómo presupuestar las comidas para las familias. Viajó por todo Milwaukee, visitando escuelas, iglesias y hogares particulares, difundiendo información importante que podría ayudar a generaciones de familias a sobrevivir.

Pasados unos años se jubiló y vivió sus últimos 10 años de la manera en que más disfrutó, viajando para visitar a su familia en México y continuó prestando su servicio comunitario como voluntaria en varias iglesias y en donde fuera necesario. Ya fuera como acomodadora, lectora, repartiendo la Sagrada Comunión o enseñando catecismo, incluso en su recta final, formó parte de la junta parroquial de la Madre del Buen Consejo.

Juana, Juanita o Licha también jugaba con la misma intensidad de la manera en que trabajaba: duro. Nunca rechazaba la oportunidad de salir de casa. Siempre la podías ver viajando a donde podía. Visitó lugares como las Cataratas de Niágara, Dakota del Sur, Nashville o más cerca de casa en Wisconsin Dells o Green Bay. Terminó ayudando como copiloto, con mucho gusto y orgullo, en la mudanza de su nieta mayor, Celina Marcela, cuando consiguió trabajo en Austin, Texas.

Ella, Mi Madre, Esposa amorosa, Buena amiga, Excelente compañera, Mujer esplendorosa, Compasiva, Compartida, Guía ejemplar y Ejemplo de fortaleza, nunca perdió su gusto de peregrinar a México. Con mucha dedicación y amor visitó a las numerosas familias Domínguez, Vázquez y Maldonado. Si era posible viajaba junto con Filemón Maldonado, su esposo, a su país natal más de una vez al año y durante meses, según se lo permitiera su jubilación.

¡La familia siempre lo era todo!

Por favor, recuerden siempre a mi bendita madre como la mujer alegre, feliz, inteligente, entusiasta, vibrante, siempre bromeando o contando chistes, fanática de las tiendas Boston Store y luego de Kohl’s, amante del programa The Price is Right y de hacer ricos pasteles de zanahoria y piña. Siempre con música tocando y la mayoría del tiempo de buen humor (siempre y cuando no la hicieran enojar un montón como sus hijos guapos y disque adultos, quienes rara vez lo hacían).

Los servicios funerarios son los siguientes:

* Velorio en la Funeraria Krause el lunes 1 de diciembre de 4:00pm a 8:00pm (9000 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53222).

* Visita a las 11:00am seguido por la misa funeraria a las 12:00pm en la parroquia Madre del Buen Consejo el martes 2 de diciembre (6924 W. Lisbon Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53210)
