Joseph Alan Wittig passed peacefully at the age of 68, surrounded by his wife, daughters, loved ones, and companion dog Fritz, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Charles and Lorraine Wittig, Joe grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School and Wauwatosa East High School, graduating in 1975. He later graduated from Cardinal Stritch University.
On July 23, 1982 Joe married the love of his life, Gloria, whom he shared 41 beautiful years with. Joe loved being a father to his twin daughters Laura and Marie, and never missed an opportunity to tell them how much joy parenthood brought him and their mother. He was a seasoned traveler and enjoyed taking his family on trips nearby and overseas.
Joe started his 45-year career at Components Company Incorporated (CCI) in 1979, and became the sole owner of the business shortly after. During his tenure as CEO and President, Joe forged lasting relationships with customers and CCI staff, many of whom devoted decades to the company. In business and in life, Joe valued and understood the importance of mentorship. He was always a willing source of support for those embarking on their career or facing one of life’s challenges.
He was a member of various organizations, including S.V.E.V D’Oberlandlers, Toast Masters International, Rotary International and The Mankind Project. Joe was an active parent and served on the boards of both Pius XI High School and Prairie Hill Waldorf School, additionally he and Gloria enjoyed being chaperones on many school trips. He also served on the board of Unity Church and the United German Societies.
Joe was passionate about connecting with people and his magnetic personality made it easy for him to form new friendships and contacts no matter where he went. He enjoyed his time as a “snowbird” going back and forth between Wisconsin and Florida with Gloria and their loyal four-legged companions, the late Netta and then Fritz.
His legacy of kindness, generosity, and dependability will be missed deeply. He rarely missed a milestone celebration for his family, siblings, nieces and nephews, or large circle of friends.
Beloved brother to Constance (Bruce) Klippel, the late Jeff, Susan (Charles Krasno), the late Mary Jane, the late David (Trish), the late Dan, Roger (Jane), Phil (Carmen), Doug, Jim (Mary), Paul (Artie Taylor), and Liz (Phil Weir). Joe is further survived by his wife Gloria, his children Laura (Jay Fenton) and Marie (Ben Barrone) and the second love of his life, his granddaughter Vivian.
The Wittig Family appreciates the numerous friends and neighbors in Florida and Wisconsin for their outpouring of love and kindness. A special thank you to the Blue Team at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center at the University of Miami Medical Center.
