John Francis Jacobs, husband of Karen (née Lucas). Loving father of John (Vickie) Jacobs and Jennie (David) Rau. Loving grandpa of Brianna Faith, Kayley Hope, and Emma Joy Rau. Dear brother of Phil (Loris) Jacobs, Tom (the late Sandy) Jacobs, Mary (Kent) Parkovich, and Kathy (Jack) Barth. He will be missed by other friends and relatives.
He was a man whose quiet strength was felt by everyone around him. He had the ability to speak the meaning of 1000 words by only using a few. Family and faith were his love and comfort, but dogs were his passion. Whether dogs he owned or those pictured in a calendar, he simply loved dogs. His fondness for the outdoors beckoned him, regardless of the season. Cutting the grass, washing the car or even shoveling the snow, he just loved the outdoors.
His 30 year career at The Milwaukee Journal was an incredible blessing. His creative talents were a gift to the business; his quiet leadership and genuine nature were a mentor to those around him. Sports of many drew his attention. From football, volleyball, and basketball in high school to the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers, he loved all things sports. His personal talents took him to the courts of the Wisconsin Athletic Club for 40 years. Racquetball was his game and no one could convince him otherwise (even though the handball players tried)! His adventurous spirit fueled him to take his family on many vacations, Door County, WI being the preferred location. To the family, he’s been known to be a little boy in a grown man’s body. Curious, adventurer, zest for life. To everyone who knew him, that’s how he’ll remain in their hearts.
