John F. Just entered eternal life on March 28, at the age of 88. He was a cherished father, husband, grandfather, friend, and physician. John’s journey was one of unwavering compassion and generosity.
In 1963, John found his soulmate Elizabeth (Doherty). Together, they raised five children: Joseph (Melinda), James, Jennifer (Matthew), Judson (Donna), and Jonathan (Laura). The joy and happiness that their fourteen grandchildren brought into John’s life was immeasurable.
John was proud of his upbringing in Donora, PA (Go Dragons!). John pursued higher education at Brown University and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. For over 48 years he practiced as a thoracic surgeon and dedicated himself to serving the Milwaukee community, providing compassionate care to countless patients.
As an Emeritus Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, he imparted his wisdom and work ethic to more than 140 residents. His dedication to teaching was exemplified by receiving Clinical Faculty Department of Surgery Teaching Awards.
John’s passions extended beyond his profession. He was an avid reader, had an insatiable love for classical music (Vivaldi anyone?), and enjoyed travelling to over fifty countries. Sharing his experiences, life lessons and stories with his family and colleagues was a source of joy for him.
How he lived his life was the greatest gift we could have received. John’s absence will be deeply felt, and his compassion, quick wit, impeccable style, boundless generosity, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire and uplift his beloved family and friends. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life, strive for excellence, and cherish the precious moments we shared with him.
His most famous catchphrase, “Every day is a work day,” is a daily reminder of his enduring presence.
