Joanne Eleanor (Wussow) Brue, 92, passed away June 1, 2026, at her home in New Berlin with her son Eric by her side. She was born in Milwaukee on April 13, 1934, to Walter and Dorothy Wussow. After graduating from Riverside High School in 1952 she undertook nurses’ training at Milwaukee County Nursing School, becoming an RN, and also attended Lutheran Bible Institute where she studied English and theology.
She served as a Lutheran medical missionary in Pakistan and Taiwan for 9 years during the 1960s. On August 22, 1970, she married Richard Erling John Brue at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. In 1971 they moved into their home in New Berlin in which she would live for the rest of her life.
She is survived by her children, Pauline (Rev. Mark) Hasty of Jonesboro, IL and Eric of Wauwatosa; her grandchildren, Hailee Jo, Serena, and Alyson, her sister Sue Davis of Brookfield; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard, her sister Kathleen Angrick, brothers-in-law Don Angrick, Tom Davis, and Robert Brue and sister-in-law Gretchen Brue.
Joanne lived a very full and active life. She enjoyed extensive travel, conversation, politics, and most particularly her granddaughters.
Celebration of life for Joanne will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 11709 W Cleveland Avenue, West Allis, WI 53227 with a short service to follow at 2:00 PM. Rev. Jane Crawford will preside. An interment will take place at a later date.
