I was very young when he came around. He'd shake his hands with change inside and ask us how much. We always guessed right!

I can count my close friends in life on one hand. Jim was among them. We first met in the Guard in the early 80s. Even though I moved 20 years ago, we’d catch up every month or so, often to discuss a math or technical problem he was working on. One story that reflects his thoughtfulness was about 8 years ago when my wife and I went on vacation. Before we went, I mentioned on a call with Jim that we were going to the Hale Koa hotel in Hawaii. This hotel caters to the military. When we arrived at the hotel, we found a welcome gift of flowers from Jim.

My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Mary and the entire McWaters family. Jim was an ultra friendly man who loved our family like his own. He was an amazing handy man who would help me out whenever I would run into a bind. He was a super smart man who knew a little bit about everything. Back when my sisters and I were kids he would invite us over with my parents to have dinner and swim in his pool. He gave me the nickname Rude Dog for the beach apparel I would wear back in the day. To this day this is one of my all-time favorite nicknames I have been given. I am extremely blessed to have known Jim. He was an amazing man who would do anything to help someone out before thinking about himself. Heaven has gained an outstanding individual. I look forward to seeing him there.
