Loving daughter of Lillie Mae Thomas and Willie Lee Thomas (both of whom have preceded her in death) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 19, 1932. She was known by Janet to her husband, friends and neighbors, Mom to her daughter, Grandma Sissy to her grandchildren, GiGi to her great-grandsons, and Sis to her only sister Alvia (deceased) and Alvia’s children, as well as to her son-in-law and extended family. Becoming ill, Janet was lovingly cared for by her husband, Lee, in their home in Milwaukee. After being in hospice care, she fell asleep in death at the home of her son-in-law and daughter in Brown Deer. We all loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.
Janet moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the late 1950’s. There, she and Lee Perkins were united in marriage on September 17, 1969. They shared two daughters, Janet’s Sharon, and Lee’s Joanne (deceased). She is survived by husband Lee Perkins, daughter Sharon (Allen) De Windt, granddaughters Jaunette De Windt and Felicia Reil, grandsons, Allen (Marisa) De Windt III and Anthony Perkins, and great grandsons, Elias De Windt, Allen De Windt IV, and Armando De Windt as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and friends.
Janet received her elementary and high school education in Cincinnati, Ohio. She furthered her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Her hobbies were varied. She loved reading and fishing – never wanting a ‘little fish’ but only the ‘big fish’. She was known for putting huge worms on the hook so only big ones could bite! She also enjoyed cooking and sewing. We especially loved her turkey and dressing, and her buttery pound cakes were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Knowing her favorite color was blue, we knew she would like just about any gift we gave her if it was blue or contained blue. She had a lot of blue in their home!
We, the family of Janet Thomas Perkins, would like to extend our heartfelt gratefulness for your expressions of sympathy, comfort, love, prayers, acts of kindness, and support during our time of grief.
Private services will be held Friday, March 15, 2024.
