Jana Schmidt was embraced by God on Friday, July 15, 2022, age 60, after a four-year bout with cancer.
She was the loving wife of Paul Schmidt. Jana’s parents, Bernhardt and Margaret (Gyolai) Goldader awaited her arrival in heaven. Jana is survived by her sister Bernadette (Robert) Janusz, her brother Mark (Kara) Goldader, nieces Terri Janusz, Stacy (Jeremy) Jahn, Kate (James) Comfort, nephews David (Anna) Janusz and Evan (Steve Schroeder) Goldader. She is further survived by a loving family of great nieces, great nephews and many cousins as well as a multitude of Paul’s family.
Jana grew up in Brown Deer, WI, and graduated with degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. She worked in restaurants, retail and trucking before joining the U.S. Postal Service in 1987 where she met Paul. During her 31 year career she delivered in many neighborhoods on the north side of Milwaukee and surrounding suburbs and befriended many of her patrons.
Jana and Paul married in 1995 and quickly fell in love with the world of travel via cruising. They embarked ships on 47 occasions and spent 542 nights at sea and often extended their vacations with additions days before and after the sailings. Their feet landed on all seven continents and their minds were awakened to a world beyond the borders of home. They enjoyed a few driving vacations as well as an annual extended weekend in Door County.
She loved to spend time with family and friends often meeting for brunch or dinner at various restaurants or enjoying concerts or theatrical performances together.
Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at St. Catherine’s of Alexandria, 8661 North 76th Place, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53223. Gathering is at 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM with service to follow.
