James “Jimmy” A. Gruenewald, Sr. was born into Eternal Life after a courageous battle with cancer on January 11, 2024. Age 75.

Beloved husband of Janine. Dear father of Deborah (Jason) Pierzchalski and James (Carla) Gruenewald, Jr, and step-father of Matt (Jamie) Lehmann. Proud grandfather of Michael (Bonnie), Bryce, Devin, Paige, Jacob (Holly), Zachary, Austin and Mackenzi, and proud great-grandfather of Jackson. He is further survived by his siblings, Thomas (Ursula) Gruenewald, Karen (Richard) Imendorf, Ronald Kraus; his step-mother, Charlotte Gruenewald; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley (David Kraus) Lemerand; and his father, Thomas Gruenewald, Sr.

Jimmy proudly served his country during the Vietnam War while in the US Marine Corps and was awarded a purple heart, and also served his community with the Milwaukee Police Department. He was able to go on the Honor Flight with his daughter. Jimmy had a delightful dry sense of humor, and loved playing Blackjack, and spending time with family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive in Brookfield, with a visitation from 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM. Military Honors will follow the service at the funeral home.

I worked with Jim at the MPD in the early 1980's. Great sense of humor and one of my favorite squad partners. Just a very decent man. Sorry for your loss.

Jimmy we met Sept 1950.of course we did not hang around most of your youth we were 13 years apart.but what I remember we had a fair life.we were brothers in civil engineering life and brothers in arms in. Two branches of the MILITARY which you got the worst of it.but you made everyone that knew. You proud.i can say we all will miss you.to think of it I wish we would of be closer.but we all go in different directions.i only wish your relatives and FRIENDS have good memory's of you.why I am here and you are where you are nobody knows.
