Howard Maney – Entered into Eternal Life and joined his loving wife, Agnes, of 68 years, on Monday, July 31, 2023, age 96.
Loving father of Jeanne (Rich) Behnke, Lori Hendricks (Vince Perez) and Leo Maney. Dear grandpa of Tracy, Rich (Jennifer), Ryan, Adam (Tiffany), Katie, Luke and Allison. Great-grandpa of Kailey, Logan, Julian and Alexander.
Howard had a long and fruitful 96 years and was a great example of strength, service, responsibility, leadership, and generosity. He served his country as part of the Army of Occupation in post WW2 Japan and as Staff Sargent Howard Maney during the Korean War. He later served his city with honor, fighting for justice and protecting the vulnerable, and even delivering babies as a Milwaukee policeman from 1952-1979.
Howard built his first home all by himself in 1956 and continued building until he was in his late 80’s. This included houses, apartment buildings, office buildings and garages. He designed and self-performed much of the work. He was an exceptional woodworker and craftsman. He built shelves, cabinets, clocks, beds, picture frames & matting, leaded glass, ceramic villages, carved ducks, painting and much more. He owned every tool imaginable.
Howard was an avid collector. Some of the collectibles include sculptures, statues, Santas, teacups, artwork, teapots and decorative plates.
Howard wintered in Florida for 38 years with his wife Agnes until she passed in 2021. Then he returned to Wisconsin full time for his final years living on the same property he grew up on 90 some years ago.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin on Thursday, August 10, 2023, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Additional gathering will be held at Saint Matthias Parish, 9306 Beloit Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial and Military Honors to follow at Saint Matthias Parish Cemetery.
Howard was truly a gift in our lives.
