Harold William Goede
The Lord, in his grace and mercy, called Harold (Joe) Goede to his heavenly home on July 19, 2022, at the age of 95. Harold was born on October 27, 1926, the son of Arthur and Adele (nee Krutz) Goede. He was baptized at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Milwaukee where he also confirmed his faith in the Lord Jesus. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Goede (nee Bruemmer) on July 24, 1949. Harold served as a Lutheran teacher and principal for forty-seven years.
Upon retirement from teaching, Harold began volunteering at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. What began with volunteering one day a week soon became five days a week and, eventually, Harold was hired as a resource person who greeted and helped families and visitors. He continued in this position until he was eighty-eight years old. It was a servant role he truly loved, and the kindness he showed to visitors and staff members endeared him to the Children’s Hospital family. Even after retiring from this position, Harold continued volunteering at St. Philip Lutheran School, where he had taught, until declining health led him to finally and fully retire.
Harold will be remembered with great affection by his daughter, Lori (the late Mark) Schoeckert of Poynette,WI and sons Ned (Margie) of Milwaukee, Lee (Mary Jo) of Milwaukee, Tod (Dana) of Toano, Virginia, and Jody (Christine) of Hartland. He is also survived by his sister Beverly (Paul) Siegler, thirteen grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Betty, cherished son Jon Robert, brother Ralph, and sister Mabel.
Harold will be remembered for his gentle and kind nature, his genuine and thoughtful concern for others, and his welcoming and generous spirit. A man of strong faith, Harold reflected the love of his Savior in his actions with others. Though his family is saddened by Harold’s passing, they are comforted in knowing that, through faith in Jesus Christ, he now wears the crown of life.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Kirklands Crossing for making Harold’s years there an enjoyable experience. He loved his Kirklands family. Thanks also for the care given to Harold by the Saint Croix Hospice team.
