Grace Amelia (Ambron) Chorny, age 96, died February 7th, 2020 at West Allis Memorial Hospital in West Allis, Wisconsin. Services were held at Krause Funeral Home in New Berlin, Wisconsin on February 14th, 2020; her ashes were interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
Grace was born on October 2nd, 1923 in Bronx, NY to Minnie (Gruenwald) and Leonard Chorny. She married Walter, her brother Alan’s best friend from across the hall in their apartment building in the Bronx.
Growing up, Grace learned to cook as a young girl from Walter’s dad and mom, and throughout her life protected her traditional European recipes and methods closely. She was appreciated for both her great cooking (perogies, pascha, kista soup and more) and warm, loving, strong and gentle personality.
Grace worked for the US Treasury in New York, JC Penney in Queens, and Target in West Allis. Grace was an active volunteer at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Queens.
Grace is survived by her children, Robert Chorny (Roane), and William Chorny (Virginia), grandchildren Eric, Jennifer, Jason, Brian, and great-grandhildren Nicholas and Samantha. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, brothers Alan, Leonard, Thomas, and daughter Laura Chorny Malvicini.
