Florence B. Luehrs (nee Fontecchio)
With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Florence Luehrs, a cherished wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and friend, who slipped away from her loved ones on March 24, 2025, at the age of 83.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Fredrick (“Fred”) George Luehrs II; her loving daughter, Carmela (Scott) Heppe; three dedicated stepchildren, Lesley Luehrs-Quartana (Mike), Shelly (Brian) Domino, Fred Luehrs III (Cassy Scrima); seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Heppe, Wesley Heppe, Nicholas (Abigail) Heppe, Michael Domino, Sam Groblewski, Fred Luehrs IV, and Joselin Domino; and four beautiful great-grandchildren, Joe, Lena, Ben and Sadie Heppe.
The void Florence leaves behind is beyond measure, but her smile, her warmth and generosity will echo in those she cared for. Born in Iron Mountain, Michigan to James and Carmela Fontecchio, Florence left shortly after high school to pursue life in Milwaukee where she worked, married, and gave birth to Carmie. After establishing herself as an insurance professional, she met the true love of her life, Fred, in 1985 and they were wed in December 1986.
Florence and Fred led a story-book life together. Their love of travel and time spent on North Twin Lake with family created significant bonds over their just-shy-of-forty-years together. They loved Vegas as much as Venice, and the Alaskan cruise was a repeated highlight as it combined their love of the outdoors with entertainment on the open seas. As Florence’s health deteriorated, Fred continued to look for answers and took care of her with compassion, patience and love, never giving up. He was her perpetual “knight” through all of her days.
Florence’s unconditional love and dedication to her husband and her family came easy to her as she relished caring for those she loved. She and her daughter, Carmie, shared the most exceptional of mother-daughter bonds—truly best friends who shared everything and every meaningful moment—the good times and the tears. There were many hours of joy found in cooking, shopping, and dining. Their annual Door County trip was a favorite ritual for many years. Like Fred, Carmie cared for her mother with grace and tenderness until the very end.
During Fred and Florence’s countless happy years on North Twin Lake they met dear friends that will always have a special place in their hearts, especially Ron and Irma Golownia. These friends brought tremendous happiness to them and are considered family.
Florence will be reunited in Heaven with loved ones who have gone before her: her parents, James & Carmela Fontecchio; her in-laws, “Fritz & Jackie” Luehrs; her siblings, Louise “Dolly” Draxler, Louis Fontecchio, Nathan “Christy” Fontecchio, Rosalie Szczurek, Donald “Sonny” Fontecchio and Jeanne Farley.
A celebration of Florence’s life-well-lived will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with a chapel service commencing at 5:00 PM and a reception to follow.
