Of New Berlin, passed away October 15, 2016 into God’s loving care at the age of 98. He was born November 21, 1917 on a farm in Ironton, WI, the youngest child of James M. and Ella (nee Giblin) Byrne. Graduated 1935 from Reedsburg H.S. and 1937 from Wisconsin Business University in La Crosse. He then worked for the War Department in Washington D.C.; during WWII after Army OCS he was stationed in Washington D.C. for the duration. In 1943 he married Esther A. Lyon of Clifton, WI and they were married for 67 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, his parents, and brothers James (Leona) of Reedsburg, WI, and Joseph (Margaret) of Oregon, WI. He is survived by children Paul (Mary Beth), Mary (Ron Carpenter), Peter (Laurie), Patrick (Cathy), Alice (Jim Olson), 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Everett worked 37 years for the Federal Government (War Dept, VA and IRS), mostly in Milwaukee. He and Esther were devoted members of Holy Apostles Parish in New Berlin for over 65 years…it was the center of their life. They were leaders in RCIA; he was a parish trustee, usher, money counter, Holy Name Society, etc. He was 4-H leader, loved history, especially family genealogy. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lt. Colonel after 25 years of service.
Everett was intelligent, kind, respectful, patient, loving, gentle, and devoted to God and his family. Underneath was a wonderful (and stealthy) Irish wit. He was truly a decent, Christian man, and was a meaningful influence on family and friends. Husband, dad, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, friend …you will be missed so much by all of us…but you are now finally home with Esther, dealing the next cribbage game (boys against the girls), and proudly wearing your cap that says “100% Irish”.
Visitation is Friday, October 21st from 9.30 AM until 11:00 AM at Holy Apostles Church, 16000 West National Avenue, New Berlin. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Apostles Church appreciated. Special thanks to the staff at Franciscan Woods who helped Everett over the past several years
