(formerly Gajewski) (nee Hucovski) Age 98 years. Beloved wife of the late Steven M. Chandler (Gajewski). Companion of the late Robert Turna. Fond aunt to her eleven Hucovski and Chandler nieces and nephews: Michael (Penny) Hucovski, Mary (the late Ron) Brown, and Colleen (Mike) Koski; Rosemary Chandler-Esch (Richard Esch), Mark (Susan) Chandler, and the late Steven L. Chandler; Rayann Chandler Szychlinski (Gary Szychlinski), Rosanne Chandler, Diane Chandler, Carolann (Jeffrey) Musiedlak, and Joanne Chandler-Boy (Alan Boy) and a loving great-aunt, and great-great aunt to their many descendants. Pre-deceased by her parents Walter and Mary (Bolin) Hucovski and siblings Walter Hucovski, Mildred Hucovski, Helen (Charles) Mohr, Benjamin Hucovski, and Joseph (Eileen) Hucovski. Also pre-deceased by her parents-in-law Peter (Piotr) and Mary (Marjanna Zaremba) Gajewski and brothers-in law Chester “Chet” (Veronica) Chandler and Roman T. Chandler. Also pre-deceased by Joseph and Josephine Novasek whom Evelyn considered foster-parents.
Evelyn was born in Superior, WI where she grew up on a farm. She enjoyed feeding the chickens, but not the pigs! The youngest child in her family, Evelyn was sent by train to Milwaukee to live with the Novaseks who were family friends. Evelyn graduated from St. Leo Elementary School and Messmer High School where she was active in chorus, art, and sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer, and tennis). Evelyn continued in schooling and won awards in the Gregg Shorthand Method. Evelyn was employed by E.R. Wagner Company and retired as executive secretary to Mr. Wagner. Her husband Steven retired from Cutler-Hammer Company where he held a number of patents in engineering. In 1965 Evelyn and Steven Chandler built their lovely ranch home in Menomonee Falls. They enjoyed travelling to Europe and relaxing at their Wisconsin vacation home called “the farm.” It was Steve who presented Evelyn with her first schnauzer puppy Franz; she was devoted to the breed for life and went on to raise five schnauzers.
Later, Evelyn enjoyed travelling with Bob to Lake Winnebago and Florida.
Evelyn is survived by her fifth schnauzer Andre of Raleigh, North Carolina.
The family of Evelyn Chandler is sincerely grateful to all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who treated our aunt with care and compassion over the years and especially this year at Community Memorial Hospital, Froedtert Hospital, Linden Grove Rehabilitation Facility, Silverado Memory Care Facility, Kindred At-Home, and Community Memorial Hospice.
