Ethel Memmel (nee Gigl) passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2026, at West Allis Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 after a short illness.
Ethel was born on February 4th, 1939, to Paul Jr. and Meta (Wahls) Gigl of Milwaukee. Siblings were Paul (Patricia) Gigl, Marie (Bruno), Diane (Gigl), and Delores (Art) Francke.
She was born and raised in Milwaukee, finishing at Riverside High School in Milwaukee. Working in manufacturing and food services, she retired early in life.
Ethel met Daniel Memmel, married, and moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. They had two sons, Dan and Steve. She moved to Milwaukee with her sons.
Ethel was a very strong-minded person who attempted to live on her own with Retinitis Pigmentosa. She lived more than 50 years being totally blind. She cared more about her sons than life itself, making sure that they had everything in life they needed, especially on Christmas day.
Ethel’s home was always known as the local coffee shop. Friends, family, neighbors would arrive throughout the day for the daily socializing.
Ethel enjoyed fishing, puzzles, and playing cards. But most being around family and friends.
Ethel leaves behind sons Dan (Laura), and Steve Sr. Grand children Jennifer (Brad), Sanders, Larry Sanders, Joe Sanders, Steve Jr., Stephanie, Samantha, and Andrew. Great grandchildren Shawn, Hailie, Skylah, Iggnatius, and Diamond.
And many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, in Milwaukee, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 11:00 AM until the time of Service at 1:00 PM. Procession to Holy Cross Cemetery to follow.
