Passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 2, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at age 65. Devoted, warmhearted, caring and loving wife of Leodis Woods. She was the loving, thoughtful, understanding, and caring mother of Chrisetta (Scott) Guthire and Stacy (Yolanda Gray) Woods. I just learned that Ethel passed. I was distraught and didn't want to believe it. She was a mainstay in the ups and downs of my college life: the first person who greeted you on the 4th floor of Marquette Hall and the first to get you together in the most loving way. She told me about all of the hair products when I cut my hair really low like hers. She was everyone's fairy god mama in that way. Thankful for the memories. Rest peacefully, Ethel. Love, Peace, and Kinky Curly.

Ethel, Was a person who cared about her students who walked through that door on the 4th floor at Marquette University. She was a person who kept me on my toes during my undergrad years. She didn't allow anyone to walk past her without speaking and acknowledging her first. She didn't allow her students to play games in school and didn't tolerate game play. She wanted what was best for her students and she loved us all. I'm grateful she was a part of my life and she'll always be a part of who I am today.

Ethel will always be a bright light in my time at Marquette. The entire EOP staff was a safe haven to many who didn't always feel like they "belonged" on that campus. But after climbing those 4 flights of stairs at Marquette Hall, the first face you usually saw was Ethel's. Just her presence made you feel like you could go on. Such a sweet soul. To my sister alumna/Woodlands mom/friend, I am praying for your strength and continued peace of mind as you continue on. You are Ms. Ethel's sweet, kind legacy! Love the whole Guthrie Clan, 3-5-7 & Scott too!

My first cousin TWICE! A sister and brother married another sister and brother. I remember the times I visited them during summer. Always had lots of fun. We played together, ate together, slept together. Hard for me to believe she's gone. The oldest granddaughter of SHELTON family. I'm next.

I remember the first time I saw Ms. Ethel and thinking of how much she favored and reminded me of my late grandmother. Her warmth, southern drawl, sharp tongue. She was truly one of the people that made Marquette feel like home. Ms. Ethel, as one of the faces of the EOP program helped see the bigger picture of why I was there. With that, I offer my condolences to her family and loved ones.

I remember coming up those gazillion flights of stairs in Marquette Hall to get to EOP. As soon as I go there Ms. Rthel was there smiling and welcoming us in. She was everyone's mother and I thank her for being my Marquette Mom!

Ethel Dean and I grew up together in same community in Arkansas. My father and her father are first cousins. She had a winning personality that made me feel cared about each time that I saw her. God bless each of you.
