Emmi Katarina (nee Jung) Lux was born on June 20, 1932 to Oswald and Emma (nee Jung) Jung in Landsweiler-Reden, Saar, Germany. She became a child of God through Baptism on July 17, 1932, and renewed her vow to be faithful to her Lord through Confirmation on April 14, 1946. Emmi immigrated to the US in 1953, leaving her family and career as a nurse, and married Hans Lux on June 20, 1953 in Milwaukee. Emmi moved to Chicago in September 1953 when Hans was drafted into the Army, worked at National Tea and took classes to become a US Citizen.
Hans returned in 1955 and their marriage was blessed with three children, Hans Jr., Susan, and Jeffrey, as well as eleven grandchildren: Kirsten, Brandon, David, Bryn, Kyra, Hayden, Joseph, Wendy, Evan, and Zachary. Emmi loved her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.
Emmi loved to cook and bake as well as knit, crochet, and do needlework. The family favorites of food included waffles, Rouladen, Fashnach Krapfen, and various cookies, and while Emmi shared her recipes, they never tasted quite the same. Emmi also loved flowers and could make anything grow.
A faithful Christian, Emmi served God through the Ladies Guild at Gloria Dei Bethesda, now Abiding Word. She saw to it that her children were raised in a Christian home and learned of the love of their Savior. Emmi was a stay-at-home mom while the children were young, but still volunteered at the community health center and school clinics. When the children were older, she worked for many years at JC Penney in the packing department and then at MW Kasch Company, a toy and hobby distributer until her retirement in 1992.
Emmi was proud of her German heritage. In 1964, Emmi and Hans joined the German Mardi Gras Society – K.G. Rheinischer Verein, serving on the Board for many years and as a member of the Prinzengarde. Emmi was ‘Prinzessin for Karneval’ twice, first in 1974 and again in 2005.
Emmi was called to her eternal rest on September 29, 2021 at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 9 days. She was preceded into death by her parents, Oswald and Emma Jung, sisters Martha Schaefer and Gertrude Bayer, granddaughter Wendy, and husband of 68 years, Hans.
Emmi is survived by her children: Hans (Beth), Susan, and Jeffrey, as well as grandchildren: Kirsten, Brandon, David, Bryn (Stephen), Kyra (fiancé Ben), Rylee, Hayden, Joseph, Evan, Zachary, and many wonderful friends.
The family is being assisted by Krause Funeral Home. Visitation and services will take place at Abiding Word Lutheran Church located at 9420 West Capital Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, beginning at 9: 30 AM with the service at 11:30 AM. Private entombment for immediate family only.
