Born May 23, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Edwin Ryan Akers and Maude Robertson Akers, and entered eternal life at 90 years old, on May 3, 2025.
Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy H. Akers; children: Carol Petersburg (Scott Petersburg, husband), Ryan Akers (CJ Akers, wife) and four beautiful grandchildren: Allie Ross, Zach Ross (Ali Parker, fiancé), Austin Akers (Elizabeth Akers, wife) and Connor Akers. Ed was a family man always putting his wife, children and grandchildren first in his life.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother and father, Edwin and Maude Akers, and sisters Patricia Hanna (Bill Hanna) and Carol Robertson Ezell (James Ezell).
Ed attended Westfield High School (NJ), served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and graduated from Lehigh College (PA) in 1957 with a business degree. He entered into a career of sales in the stainless-steel industry, with companies like Armco Steel until he purchased his own business in 1977. The business, Berger Polishing, polished sheets of steel to different finishes for use in the dairy, manufacturing and specialty steel industries.
Ed and his wife Dottie (Dorothy) knew each other as young children, where their families lived next door to each other in New Jersey. They reconnected after college in New York City where Dottie was a flight attendant and Ed was a salesman. They were married two years later at St Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC and were blessed to spend a lifetime together.
He loved golfing, boating, water and snow skiing and enjoyed time with close friends. Ed and Dottie were members of North Hills Country Club golfing weekly and participating in the Lombardi Golf classics for many years. Together they owned a number of boats and loved boating with the Milwaukee Boat Club for many years.
Family was of number one importance for Ed as he dedicated his life to ensuring his children would have opportunities to experience the outdoors and share time with extended family. Ed was both a Christmas and Disney enthusiast, going so far to have a Tigger and Mickey golf character tattooed on both his ankles.
Ed was very involved with his four grandchildren teaching them how to play Monopoly, Texas Hold-em, Go Fish, mini golf and always spoiling them with a Culvers lunch and ice cream.
Remembrance and celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin with visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, service from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, following with a late lunch from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Bullwinkle’s Restaurant in Brookfield, (a favorite of Ed and Dottie’s). Ed will be honored with a military gun salute to recognize his service in the armed forces.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ed’s name made to Wounded Warriors or Tunnels to Towers.
