Douglas C. Loth
April 22, 1934 – March 16, 2024
Douglas Charles Loth (Doug) entered peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, March 16, 2024, just 1 month shy of his 90th birthday.
A dedicated family man, Doug loved his family deeply and worked hard for his loved ones. He was a devoted husband for 66 years to his wife Darlene, an incredible father to James Loth, Carrie (Brian) Kalata and Jeffrey (Rosemary) Loth. A wonderful grandfather to Maggie (Calvin) Czajka, Amanda (Kenzo) Webster, Christopher Loth, and step-grandfather to Kathryn and Megan Kalata. Adoring Great-Grandfather to Jackson Czajka. Preceded in death by his parents Elmore and Gertrude Loth, and sister Judith C. Loth.
Doug grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He cherished his early years and especially enjoyed attending Wauwatosa High School, where he graduated in 1952. Doug made many life-long friendships during high school. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity, ultimately graduating in 1957 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in Economics. Throughout college he was actively involved with ROTC. He served in the Army after college at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Following college, Doug entered the business world, where his career took him and his family to Appleton, Wisconsin. Living in Appleton for 45 years, Doug and Darlene made many special friends and made lasting memories. Following his retirement in 1998 from a long and successful career in sales that culminated with Menasha Corporation, Doug and Darlene moved to Bonita Springs, Florida. They eventually relocated back to Wisconsin at St. Camillus in Wauwatosa in 2022.
Doug was a man of many interests. He enjoyed playing basketball at the high school and collegiate levels. He was a proud member of the Wauwatosa varsity team that advanced to the 1951 and 1952 WIAA state tournaments in Madison. Also, during high school, he was active in theater, and continued that interest through involvement with several productions with the Children’s Theater in Appleton.
Doug was an avid fan of the Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball, Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Braves. He was fortunate to hold season tickets for the Packers and attended the legendary “Ice Bowl” game on New Year’s Eve of 1967. He also took great pleasure in attending the Rose Bowl games on January 1, 1994, and January 1, 1999, to support the Badgers. Doug was an usher at Milwaukee County Stadium during the mid-50’s for Braves games.
His other interests included classic movies, the music of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Pressley, vacationing in Door County, Disney Parks and Hilton Head. He also enjoyed participating in card games such as Sheepshead, playing bocce ball, and making the very best huge bowl of popcorn for the family to enjoy! Additionally, he loved comedy and he possessed a quick wit. Doug generously volunteered and served on the Board of Directors with the Salvation Army in Appleton.
A special thank you to the caregiving staff in skilled nursing at St. Camillus, particularly Sister Christy, hospice nurse Jodi Stesenec, and Social workers Xia Xiong and Lauren McGaver.
