Dennis Carl Nelson, of Milwaukee, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the age of 77. Born to Harold and Dorothy (Schiebler) Nelson on March 6th, 1947 in Appleton, Wisconsin, he was their only child. He met the love of his life, Nancy Ann Fisher, at Xavier High School. On August 26th, 1972, Dennis and Nancy were married in Appleton, WI when Nancy’s family became Dennis’s family. Dennis built a beautiful, loving life with Nancy in Milwaukee. He had five children, Michelle Nelson-Green, Gretchen Ann Nelson, Timothy (Tommy Hart) Nelson, Thomas (Lane Cox) Nelson, and Emily (Abigail Hughes) Nelson. His children further blessed him with five cherished grandchildren, Maxwell, Madeline, and Jackson Green: Brayden and Audrey Nelson.
Dennis obtained a Design Engineering Degree from Michigan Tech before serving in the United States Army for four years, where his sharp mind and typing skills were put to good use. Following his honorable discharge, Dennis began his 35-year career with the city of Milwaukee as a Mechanical Engineer. He had a passion for his loved ones and the Milwaukee Brewers. As a father, he supported each of his children in their countless activities and seamlessly transitioned in retirement to supporting all his grandchildren from the stands of countless games and performances as well as Nancy in her garden. Nothing made him happier or prouder than watching his loved ones doing what they loved.
Throughout his life, Dennis enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He spent many years as a WIAA trained and certified baseball and softball umpire and volleyball official. Whether it was hunting or fishing, reading, working on Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, or going to sporting events for and with his family, Dennis was an active man. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many for he truly was a special man.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Dorothy Nelson, daughter Gretchen Nelson, mother and father-in-law Cy and Emmy Fisher, and sister-in-law Mary (Fisher)Recker. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (nee Fisher), children Michelle, Timothy (Tommy), Thomas (Lane), and Emily (Abagail), brother-in-law Charles (Joyce) Fisher, and his grandchildren. He is further survived by countless family and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the medical staff at St. Luke’s Hospital for their unwavering care, especially the staff of the Emergency Room, and Nurses and CNAs of the ICU and the 12S Floor.
Visitation will be held on January 19, 2025, at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI beginning at 1:00 PM to be followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM.
